The In Black Girls We Trust design was inspired by my love for the safe space that is Black girls. Even though I’m a woman now, I’ll always connect to the term “Black girl,” because it started with me, the little Black girl from Newark, NJ, who was told to be softer when there wasn’t a single place in my world that allowed softness.
 
This design is a reflection of her...her need to be heard, protected, and affirmed. It’s also rooted in my refusal to shrink, dim, or deny the things about us that make us who we are. A village of Black women raised, shaped, and saved me. So now, as a grown-up Black girl, I feel safest in spaces filled with other Black girls.
 
Because when you can read the energy, that energy that cannot lie even if it tried, and you can be real, vulnerable, yourself, hair down, guard down… and you just know you’ve met someone from your tribe - it's more than likely a black girl? Listen, if you know, you know.
